Internships

SarahJane Brady, Managing Director

The Forum for Equality wants to be a part of the development of the future generation of LGBT and allied leaders. We can provide a structured internship experience that includes specific content knowledge and measurable outcomes. We structure our internship as a curricular activity that allows the intern to achieve competencies in the following areas: Leadership, policy, grass roots organizing, development and board development, event production, fundraising and management.

The curriculum allows the intern to fulfill specific leadership roles. For each specific role, we have well qualified mentors from within and outside our organization. The role of the mentor is to act as a resource for the intern during her/his internship in a way that enhances his/her appreciation of the issues being addressed. In addition we have the administrative structure to provide supervision of the intern on a daily basis. View our prototype internship curriculum here.

The internship also provides added value for our mentors and for our organization. To that end, the evaluation of the internship experience covers achievements on the part of the intern, the mentors, the organization and the potential for refining and replicating the experience in the future. Therefore we strongly believe in bringing scholarly standards to the internship in such a way that the requirements of the educational institution sponsoring the intern are met.

Objective:
Provide internship experience that allows the intern to achieve competencies in one or more of the following areas: Leadership, policy making, grass roots organizing, development and board development, event production, fundraising and management.
