Martin Luther King Jr. once said: “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” We can fight bigotry and hate with knowledge and love.
The fight should not be focused only outside of our community. We must love the diversity within. We must welcome those like us but also embrace those whose sexual orientation and gender identity, whose race or ethnicity, whose religion or abilities are different from ourselves.
The Forum For Equality is committed to diversity and inclusion. We believe that all citizens are entitled to equal rights and that all of their families should have access to the benefits they need and deserve. The Forum For Equality is dedicated to fighting for those rights and benefits in the voting booth, in city halls and parishes and at the statehouse in Baton Rouge. Read the full Policy here.
Love and fairness are key to respecting human dignity. None of us are safe when any of us are degraded by the vitriol of fanatics and extremists who claim their views are representative of normality and morality. All too often, though, we ignore the disrespect and oppression forced upon our transgender brothers and sisters.
